ADVOCACY: THE WISH AND WORK IN 2026
In 2026, our advocacy centers lived experience, amplifies authentic voices, and advances systems that are accessible by design. We are shifting from speaking for people with disabilities to working with them as leaders, decision-makers, and change agents across policy, services, employment, housing, and community life.
Our approach blends relationship-building with action—supporting people to share their stories with policymakers and navigate systems like Medicaid and employment supports. At its core, advocacy is about dignity, access, and opportunity. By listening, learning, and acting together, we help ensure policies reflect real needs, supports promote independence, and every person has the opportunity to live the life they choose.

The Backbone of Supported
Community Living:
Direct Support Professionals (DSPs)
Direct Support Professionals are the backbone of community-based supports, providing daily assistance that empowers people with disabilities to live full, self-directed lives. Their work goes beyond tasks—building trust, supporting independence, and honoring each person’s goals, preferences, and individuality at home, work, and in the community.
DSPs play a critical role in health and safety, life skills, employment and education, and community connection. They adapt to changing needs, problem-solve in real time, and often serve as advocates to ensure the voices of the people they support are heard and respected. This work requires patience, creativity, professionalism, and a strong commitment to person-centered values.
At ASN, we recognize that investing in DSPs is essential. We continue to advocate for competitive wages, ongoing training, and growth opportunities to sustain a strong workforce—strengthening the entire support system and helping people with disabilities live the lives they choose.
NEWS: Winter Bash was a SMASH!
Over 90 people gathered in downtown Springdale for ASN’s Winter Bash, making it a fun and memorable way to celebrate the new year. With good food, lively karaoke, and plenty of time to connect, the evening was filled with laughter, music, and meaningful moments spent together. Events like this remind us how powerful it can be to simply come together and build community in welcoming, inclusive spaces.
As we look ahead to 2026, ASN’s Planning Collective remains committed to fostering stronger communities through connection and collaboration. We are actively seeking partners across the state interested in helping create impactful experiences, from large-scale events and holiday celebrations to smaller, interest-based gatherings. If you’re group, business, or organization is interested, send us a note at info@supports.org.
